Philip, I used to own a JD4100 and used a 60" TSC tiller behind it without any problems. I suspect your JD4200 will do just fine with a 60" tiller so long as you are not working really difficult soil (i.e. clay and rocks). Good luck with whatever you decide.

I might be having a brain cramp here but for some reason I can't remember ever hearing of a model 760. I wonder if the model is a 790 or more likely I am about to learn something new about JD model numbers????

I used to own a JD4100 with FEL and I can tell you from first hand experience that you need some type of ballast. I purchased the JD ballast box for $90 at the local dealer and it was very well constructed. Probably the most reasonably priced attachment in the JD lineup. About the first time a rear tire comes off the ground or you loose steering you will probably agree. If you have 3 pt. implements you can use them for ballast as well. Good luck with your ballast project.

Phil, I faced the same decision a few months back. I decided on the TC35D because of the loader capacity. I did not get the tractor for mowing. Unless you are mowing a very large area the TC35 would be too big. I purchased my tractor with the idea of doing some work for money when I retire soon. If I was just going to use the tractor on a hobby farm the TC33 would probably have been just fine. Another reason I chose the TC35D is the totally independent pto, turn brake location and hydro pedal setup. I guess it comes down to what you want, expect and plan to use the tractor for. Good luck with your purchase whatever it may be.

Mark your price for the 35D is about $80 less than I paid for mine. I paid 18,700 for the 35D with 16LA loader and 72 inch H.D. bucket. It sounds like a great deal to me.

Hello Chris Bucy. I have never heard of a Mustang lawn tractor. That doesn't mean much except I have never heard of one. Personally I have tried several types and shapes of lawn tractors. The only one that even comes close to doing what I wanted was the JD LT155 with the 42" mulching deck. The two pedal hydrostatic drive may not be the only thing going but it certainly is the best thing going.

Hi Gary. It was in the low 70's here when I made the fix. My dealer was able to look up the thermostat problem on whatever computer tech line they use. At the time I did not have that problem so I fixed the bypass problem. Everything worked fine for a few weeks and then the cold engine syndrome appeared again. The thermostat problem only showed up after 10 hours of use. If you ever looked at one you would understand how it is a random issue. This little metal flapper (for lack of a better word) sits beside the seal that opens and closes in the thermostat. If everything goes exactly wrong the little metal flapper will get stuck between the thermostat seal valve and cause it to stay open from that point forward. Thermostats are designed to open and close depending on the temperature of the coolant in the engine. When the thermostat is constantly held open by this flapper valve the engine never gets a chance to warm up. This was a very long non-answer to your question. The only way to tell if you have a problem is to determine if you have the defective thermostat by visual inspection or by asking your dealer.

As a peace offering you can just send me the $75 and you won't even have to display all those tractors and suffer the indignities of having the tires kicked. Just kidding. ;>)

David, my second mower is a JD LT155. I just love the thing. It has HST foot pedal control and a 42" mulching deck. It does a great job for me on 1.5 acres. The 42" mulching deck allows me to get close to trees and other obstacles and there is no need for bagging if you mow on a regular basis. I mow my lawn at 3 inches but the height setting on the deck is very easy with a dial-n-go type adjustment. The price of the LT155 is around $2400 new. I am not familiar with St. Augustine grass and that may be a consideration with a mulching deck.

Congratulations Eric. I own a TC35D too. I only have 9 hours on it but I am very impressed so far. The only problem I have noticed is that the engine never came up to operating temperature. If you have the same problem (not all of them did) there was a post on the subject a few weeks back. I contacted my dealer and they have a part on order that is supposed to fix the problem. In the mean time I have installed a temporary fix as suggested in the post on cold running TC's. Good luck with the new machine.

My dealer called today and said NH has a valve that goes in the engine block to fix the problem. It sounds a lot like the valve that Gary just described as leaking like a screen door. In the mean time I have installed the Briggs and Straton fuel valve which works just fine.

Hide the car keys and buy the tractor. She won't get very far with a broken foot and she is bound to settle down some by the time the foot heals. On a more serious note, the JD4100 should be easy enough for just about anyone to operate. I don't know much about the TC21D.

I just purchased a TC35D a few weeks ago. Removing and installing the FEL is not any where close to the ease of the JD loader on the 4100. More pins and levers and on and off the tractor than JD. When it comes to FEL installation JD has NH beat by a mile. When it comes to control function ergonomics NH has JD beat by a small margin. In my opinion of price per H.P., NH wins.........I don't know anything about attaching Kubota implements.

The Credit Union and I own a TC35D. I have not had a problem with the Neutral Safety Switch but I have noticed that the temp. guage never moves. I'm not sure if it is a problem with the engine not getting warm or the temp. guage. I'm guessing it is the temp. guage because the engine seems to run fine after a short warm up period. I am very pleased with the tractor so far to include the folding ROPS. Please keep in mind that I only have 6.5 hours on the tractor so far and may find some problems in the future.

Turn brakes and FEL capacity is the reason that I bought the TC35D instead of the TC29D. It had something to do with the pto on the 33,29, and 25 needing a foot clutch to engage/disengage the pto. On the 35D the pto is controlled by a lever on the left fender. I don't know much about pto clutches but I did know that I didn't want a HST tractor with a clutch that I had to operate and no turn brakes.

Craig, I went through the same decision process a while back. It is not an easy decision. If the 790 was available in a hydro model it would have been a simple choice. Unfortunately the 790 is not available with a hydrostatic transmission. The other factors I considered was the standard mid pto and mfwd on the 4100. The independent pto's was another important feature for me (I'm just not that coordinated with clutches and tillers at the same time). I think the mid pto and MFWD are options on the 790. The 790 is a lot more tractor for the money h.p. wise, but when you consider the options and what the 4100 can do, I decided on the 4100. You may also want to consider Newholland and Kubota. My hat is off to the people that can operate a clutch and front end loader with precision. I just can't seem to do that. The hydrostatic drive was very important to me. This is not much of an answer but maybe a little insight. In any event I hope it was helpful.

Hi Frank, I have owned a TC35D for a total of two weeks and no recalls yet. It probably takes longer than that for the paper work to catch up. So far it seems to be missing a few features that the John Deere has and also has a few features that the John Deere is missing. I liked the loader control better on the Deere but the Newholland has a range selector option on the loader control. The Newholland has a better seat and cruise control but the Deere has better hydro pedal control. Just my observations so far. Others will probably disagree.

Michigan law is much like Bird stated about Texas. I am a State Patrolman (but only for the next 7 months)and I have stopped tractors mostly for a lack of SMV signs. I did arrest one tractor driver for drunk driving. It was his third offense and he went to prison. It's really difficult to get a beligerent drunk on a tractor to stop!
